On a recent beautiful sunny day, September 5, the 21st George Buckhardt Memorial Golf Outing was held in Fort Wayne, IN. What an exciting event with over 100 attendees, making it the largest gathering to date. Just imagine all of the golf carts traversing the course with everyone enjoying a great event with their friends.
In 2000, Marie Odle and her sons, Michael and Tony Buckhardt created the memorial golf outing to provide financial assistance for flooring installers and their families. Since that date, the event has raised over $370,000. This is a lasting tribute to the memory of George Buckhardt and the many golfers who participate.
Corporate sponsors were F&M Tile, Contract Interiors and Michael’s Floor Covering that donated $2,000.00 each. The golf hole sponsors included Valentin Inc. who sponsored two holes and also paid for two teams to participate in the competition. Other hole sponsors were Carpet Cushions and Supplies, Carpet One, CFI, City Carpet, Coleman Home Center, Jimelle Floors, Lehman Floor Covering, Louisville Flooring Solutions and the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA).
Marie Odle was very busy driving the refreshment cart and making certain everyone enjoyed a scrumptious dinner following the event. She was assisted by her husband Mike Odle, sons Michael and Tony, Tami Thomas, Janice Pruitt, Marveen Terryberry and Jane Walker. No one left hungry with a delicious dinner of fried chicken, ribs and beef accompanied by a huge selection of vegetables, salads and desserts.
CFI guys attended from many states including, Joe Cea (AZ); Dave and Kathy Garden (MI) wearing very flashy golfing clothes and sporting one of those fancy red Jeeps; George Johnson (MD); Ray Knapp (SD) in his big van with those fancy ramps he built that will be on every Barbara Bush vehicle (WOW); Robert Varden (TX), Dwayne and Janice Pruitt (KS), Jonathan Varden (KS), Scott and Marveen Terryberry (NE), Roland Thompson (MD), Rod Von Busch (KY) and Jane Walker (CO). Michael and Tony Buckhardt (IN) were everywhere creating a very successful event. Tim Steinhauer accompanied Rod from Louisville and will soon be a CFI guy.
Annually, the Pat Fell Memorial Hero Award is given to someone who donated or did the most for the fund during that period of time. It is awarded in the memory of Pat Fell of Maryland who passed away at an early age from cancer. Pat’s family was the first recipient from the proceeds of the fund. This year’s recipient is Tami Thomas (IN) with Lehman Floor Covering who received a plaque in recognition of her donation of an enormous amount of time, a golf team sponsorship and a hole sponsor.
A total of $15,000 was collected this year for the fund. This is an amazing amount donated by the attendees who respond annually to assist flooring installers in need. The winner of the 50/50 was Valentin Inc., who unselfishly donated their winnings to the fund.
This year’s winners were:
1st place: Coleman Home Center – Zac and Andy Coleman
2nd place: Klopfenstein Furniture – Tony Wilson and Sessie Wilson
3rd place: King’s Flooring – Phil Whitacre and Kevin Whitacre
Far from par installers – Mike Krause and Alex Smith
Longest Drive – Eric Missle
Closest to the pin – Mike Wolff and Timmy McDonald
Longest Putt – Matt Bauer
