The North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA) has approved proposed updates to LF-01, its ANSI-accredited performance standard for laminate flooring. As part of ANSI requirements, LF-01 undergoes a formal review and update process every five years. The revised standard will now advance to the next stage of the ANSI process, entering canvassing and public review.
LF-01 serves as the benchmark for laminate flooring performance, verifying products meet strict durability and quality requirements through independent third-party testing. To achieve certification, products must meet minimum thresholds across a range of performance categories including resistance to wear, impact, moisture, staining and light exposure, as well as dimensional stability and overall product integrity.
Certified products are classified into one of four end-use levels—Residential, Light Commercial, Commercial and Heavy Commercial—providing clear guidance for appropriate application based on performance. The standard also requires verified compliance with formaldehyde emission limits under CARB Phase 2 and EPA TSCA Title VI, supporting indoor air quality and regulatory alignment.
