A Challenging Situation

The 5,000 square-foot renovation of a retail store was two weeks behind schedule at the Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. In addition, the floor had more than 1” variation across, the moisture readings in the slab were up to 95% and there was significant cracking and surface contamination on the existing concrete. With severe challenges like these and the already delayed project, the owner and general contractor, Structure Corp., were concerned about tight timelines.

The ARDEX Solution

ARDEX MC™ RAPID is a one-coat moisture system approved for up to 100% RH readings. When using ARDEX underlayments and toppings, the floor can be installed in as little as four hours. ARDEX MC™ RAPID also provides an excellent coverage of up to 270 square feet per coat and moisture vapor perm ratings less than or equal to 0.06.

The ARDEX Polished Concrete Systems were chosen to deliver a reliable and fast solution. It’s comprised of a full system solution including specified steps from substrate preparation through the finished polished floor and floor maintenance. The polished concrete topping ARDEX PC-T™ can be installed from 3/8” up to 2” neat, making it an ideal solution for the variation of 1” across the substrate found on this project.
