Ceramic Tile Coalition Supports Further Tariffs on India

The Coalition for Fair Trade in Ceramic Tile, representing U.S. manufacturers of ceramic tile products, said it supports the recent imposition of additional tariffs on India while also requesting “anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tariffs on tiles from India that have been illegally dumped in the U.S. market.”

The group cites a unanimous determination from the U.S. International Trade Commission issued last May, stating “the U.S. [tile] industry is threatened with material injury by…imports of ceramic tile from India.”

According to Eric Astrachan, executive director of the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) and Coalition for Fair Trade in Ceramic Tile, “Tariffs are a fair and necessary tool to level the playing field for U.S. manufacturers from products that are dumped or subsidized. Our members and the hundreds of hard-working families employed in the domestic tile industry appreciate President Trump’s efforts to address challenges in the U.S.-India trade relationship that have led to American job losses in tile manufacturing.”
