FCICA, the Flooring Contractors Association, is excited to provide the following educational opportunities led by industry experts at the Mid-Year Meeting – A Sweet Experience, this October 3 – 5 in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Leading up to the educational sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the commercial floor covering industry by attending committee meetings on October 3rd and sharing their expertise and knowledge while discussing industry topics and future initiatives of the association.
Thursday, October 4th is devoted to education. The day will kick off with an opening session, followed by our first educational session, Recruit, Motivate and Retain Top Talent, presented by Nelson White of Spartan Surfaces. While running a business can be extremely lonely at the top, we all need to understand that business should be FUN, our team members should have FUN, and the organization should provide an outstanding CULTURE for our team members. ATTITUDE is everything up front, however, the consistency with which you share your message long-term will determine your success in Recruiting, Motivating, and Retaining Top Talent. This session is sponsored by the Successors in accordance with their new directive to lead, inform, network and support the community.
The second educational session is an overview of ASTM F3261, presented by Brent Fike of Roppe Holding Company. The hottest new segment of the ever-growing Luxury Vinyl Tile & Plank market is being classified as Rigid Polymeric Flooring. Join us while we dive into ASTM F3261-17 for this newest product category. We will discuss what can be classified as Rigid Core as well as how the validation testing is performed. We will be focusing on what separates Commercial from Residential products, flatness of planks, ledging, dimensional stability, cupping and curling. Join us for this educational session focused on ASTM F3261 “What Is Resilient Flooring in Modular Format with Rigid Polymeric Core.”
Following a networking lunch and a Contractor meeting luncheon, Clifton Guise of Federated Insurance will present Business Succession Planning. Learn how to ensure the continuity of your business operations, how to minimize income, inheritance, and estate taxes and how to transfer your business interest to the appropriate owner, whether family member, employee or third party. We will also discuss the impact of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Job Act on succession and estate planning for business owners.
The final educational session is Communicating from the Field to the Office, presented by Mike Newberry, CIM, and Gerry Swift, CIM. Continuing our CIM education track, Mike and Gerry will discuss industry-wide best practices for collecting and communicating jobsite information back to the office, including who is responsible, when communication should take place, what documentation is necessary or suggested, helpful technology for gathering and organizing communications and other documents, and more.
Attendees of the 2018 FCICA Mid-Year Meeting will have ample time to network as well as learn from leaders in their field. Plus, those working on their Certified Installation Manager (CIM) continuing education credits (CEUs) will have an opportunity to earn a total of five (5) credits for attending all educational sessions.
Mid-Year 2018 – A Sweet Experience will be hosted at The Hotel Hershey in Hershey, Pennsylvania, October 3 – 5.
