Wood Flooring and Adhesive Industry Veteran, Larry Scott, Passes Away.
Industry veteran Larry Scott passed away on September 11, making an already sad day even more so.
Larry was born in Wick, WV on a snowy winter day, February 18, 1951 and grew up in Ohio. He moved to Texas in the late 60’s where he spent the rest of his life. Larry started his flooring career in the 70’s as a hardwood flooring installer for French Brown Floors in Dallas, TX. After learning and mastering the wood flooring installation trade, he branched off and started a wood floor contracting and maintenance company, Specialty Maintenance, based in Dallas, TX. After many years of building a very successful business, Larry sold his share of the company to his partner.
In 1993, Larry moved his young family to the Texas Hill Country community of Bandera, TX where he designed and built custom homes with his partner and wife, Elizabeth and an architect friend, Barry Ehrmann.
In 1999, Larry was hired by DriTac Adhesives, Brooklyn NY, where he spent a long and successful career. While at DriTac, he held several positions, including; Southwest Regional Sales, Director of Field Technical Services and Vice President, Technical Services.
According to Chuck Hall, friend and former VP Sales for DriTac Flooring Products, “Larry made friends everywhere he went. He was one of the most admired, well-liked, trusted and universally respected people in the flooring industry. His industry friends are too many to count, are scattered across North America and include: distributors, flooring contractors, retailers and competitors.”
Larry was an outstanding teacher and trainer of wood flooring installation. He had a special gift of relating to his audience and making them feel comfortable. His legacy will live on through the many installers, contractors and sales associates he taught and mentored throughout the years. Larry retired from the flooring industry in 2018 and returned to his home building business in Bandera, TX.
Larry leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth and three sons, Chris, Nicholas and Erik Scott. Larry was a devoted family man, a wonderful person and friend and a loyal colleague. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
All donations in memory of Larry can be made to Bandera United Methodist Church, Bandera, Tx, www.banderaumc.org in care of Youth Ministries which Larry was actively involved in donating his time, teaching and mentoring the youth of the community.
