National Flooring Equipment has named Derek M. Olson president of the national and international floor removal company. He is the third president of the company, which was started in 1968 by Lloyd Anderson. The company has also opened a new training center in Colorado.
Olson has been with the company since 2009 and succeeds Marty Anderson, son of the founder. He brings an extensive business background to the table with experience in sales, account management, public relations, advertising and brand development.
“We have the best technology and equipment in the industry,” said Olson. “I’m looking forward to focusing on developing people, relationships and products.”
Prior to working at National, he held positions in aerospace, operations, consulting, legislative research and drafting. He has an International Management and Economics degree from Pepperdine University and an MBA from University of London, at Royal Holloway College. He resides outside of Boulder, Colo., with his family.
The training center located in Broomfield will bring 1000s of concrete contractors, veterans and beginners, through the Denver metro area. The facility anticipates more than 30 training programs will be held in 2016 with added growth throughout the year. The training program is the only one of its kind, providing hands-on usage of the machinery, with opportunities to actually destroy flooring. Technicians gain experience with various floor removal techniques from grinding and shot blasting to scarifying and polishing. The program also features components on customer service, floor removal systems and job site accounting such as how to calculate the highest return-on-investment.
Technicians can also tap into National’s online training resources through their website and online programs to address specific issues and machinery-specific details. The new Colorado location expands the opportunity for training direct from the equipment manufacturer.
“Flooring companies can now get training directly from the industry experts and the best part is you don’t have to go to Minnesota in the winter,” said Olson.
National has set the standard for concrete floor preparation with its original walk-behind floor scraper technology and polishing equipment. The company, which is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn., holds more than 25 patents from the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Holland, Japan and the United Kingdom. National is the only full service surface preparation provider built and engineered in the United States.
