The American Cement Association (ACA) will host its fourth annual Virtual Sustainability Summit, Aug. 25-27, beginning at noon each day. Industry leaders and subject-matter experts across the value chain will provide updates and insights on key developments moving the industry toward net zero, centering on the eventโs theme: โMeasurable Progress. Meaningful Impact. Moving Forward.โ
Day 1 (Tuesday, Aug. 25) will feature:
- Opening remarks from UNACEM North America CEO Rafael Villalona, who will discuss the latest initiatives at his companyโs plants including a project with the U.S. Forest Service and using woodchips as an alternative fuel
- Keynote speaker Brian Potter, author of Origins of Efficiency, exploring how technology transitions are shaped and the role of efficiency and optimization in creating sustainable outcomes
- Panel discussions covering Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and how value chain partners are instrumental toward helping the industry reach carbon neutrality
Day 2 (Wednesday, Aug. 26) will focus on decarbonization through alternative fuels and blended cements, and where the industry is seeing the most success. Additionally, subject-matter experts will examine the newest approaches to adopting the latest technologies.
Day 3 (Thursday, Aug. 27) will examine the forces shaping the cement industryโs next chapter, including evolving regulations, workforce challenges and the growing influence of AI. Speakers will discuss how to navigate policy uncertainty and build the talent and capabilities needed for long-term success.
