On April 22 in celebration of Earth Day 2025, Schönox staff presented trees to Scott Jones, principal of Allen Thornton Career Technical Center in Killen, Ala., at the construction site of the new Lauderdale County Innovation Center. The flowering dogwood trees, native to Alabama, will be planted at a later date to coincide with the facility’s opening.
The Innovation Center project, located in Florence, Ala, has been eight years in the making. School leaders said the new facilities will create additional opportunities for students, offering various career tech programs and vocational training including a Workforce Development Center and Agricultural Center.
“We’ll be able to serve more students,” Jones said. “Right now, we’re full. We’ve had to turn some students away. This is also more centrally located, so it will help students on the West End have less travel and give them more time in the classroom.”
Those in attendance included: Bill Griffin, City of Florence, Ala., councilman, District 3; Deborah Coslow, Schönox sustainability specialist; Tracy Johnson, Schönox marketing manager; Garrett Wood, Schönox sales specialist; and John Lio, Sika Corp.’s director of marketing.
