Over the past 15 years luxury vinyl tile (LVT) has skyrocketed from 10% to 40% of the resilient flooring market, according to Tarkett. With many of those original installations now needing to be replaced, Tarkett has partnered with Dalton, Ga.-based Avery Automats, a leading manufacturer of automative carpet and all-weather floor mats.
โThrough our ReStart take-back and recycling program, weโve been working for decades to build a circular economy where nothing goes to waste,โ said Rachel Palopoli, Tarkett North Americaโs director of circular economy. โSometimes that calls for creative solutions.โ
Since partnering with Avery Automats in 2022, Tarkett says every pound of post-use LVT flooring processed through the ReStart program has been recycled into new automotive products.
โIt is amazing to be able to work with partners that can use old floors as a raw material and turn it into great, long-lasting products,โ Palopoli said. โOur No. 1 goal with ReStart is to avoid sending any material to a landfill because those landfills can actually release harmful chemicals into our air, water and soil.โ
In 2024, Tarkett North America’s ReStart program diverted 2.1 million lbs. of old flooring material from landfills. To learn more about Tarkettโs sustainability initiatives, visit https://commercial.tarkett.com/sustainability.
